After ten 12-inches from the Poker Flat artist family, up until then consisting of Berlin based Märtini Brös aka DJ Clé and Mike Vamp, Stockholm´s minimal master Hakan Lidbo, Michel Baumann aka Jackmate from Stuttgart, Thomas Koch aka DJ T and of course Mr.Steve Bug himself, the Berlin based Top-DJ and producer decided in November 2000 to give a first overview of his hugely successful minimal tech house label Poker Flat Recordings:
Next to the highlights out of Poker Flat´s young backcatalogue, the compilation is featuring 2 exclusive tracks from the highly appreciated Berlin artists Tom Clark („Snap-Shot“) and Steve Bug („Fog You“).
The A&R and mastermind behind Poker Flat, Steve Bug, first came in contact with House music in 1987 when he used to visit a club called „Front“ in Hamburg where his curiosity led him to DJ at small private parties. By 1991 he had started organising his own events, including a weekly Sunday House night at yet another Hamburg club. In 1995 he started producing his own music and soon had releases out on labels such as Rising High, Stickman Records and Felix Da Housecat´s The Black Label. It wasn't long before he started up his own label Raw Elements which witnessed the release of his hugely successful 1st album „Volksworld“ and the double CDs „Da Minimal Funk Vol.1 & 2“.
The end of 1998 brought the close of Raw Elements but the launch of a new era and the label Poker Flat. Here into the 12th release Steve Bug was already revered as the master of musical seduction. Previous releases on Poker Flat included „The Double Action EP“ which included the massive club hit „Loverboy“, re-released by popular demand incl. a remix from Philadelphia´s Josh Wink (also featured on this compilation). Further more Y2K saw the release of Steve Bug´s brilliant 2nd longplayer „The Other day“, giving evidence for Bug being one of the most interesting dance producers to date. Here the original loverboy is back with his first label-compialtion of sensual grooves and minimal moods. Get the kick!
The excellent Barcelona label House of (S)PUNK is back with a five-song comp showcasing the local hardgroove scene. Bandcamp New & Notable May 1, 2024
